FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How our 3D/4D sessions and in-home exams work, what to prepare, and how scheduling works.

3D/4D pregnancy sessions

Is a 3D/4D session a medical exam?

No. Our 3D/4D pregnancy sessions are elective, non-diagnostic keepsake experiences for bonding and celebrating. They don't replace the ultrasounds or prenatal care from your OB or midwife, so please keep all your regular appointments.

When is the best time for a 3D/4D session?

It depends on what you'd like to see. Love's First Flutter (6–13 weeks) confirms the pregnancy and lets you hear the heartbeat in 2D. Blessed Beginnings (9–27 weeks) shows movement in 3D/4D. Beautifully Woven (28+ weeks) is the best time to see your baby's features, and it includes gender confirmation.

Can family and friends be there?

Yes, that's one of the best parts of an at-home session. Partners, grandparents, siblings and friends can all watch together from your own living room. It's why many families book their gender reveal or baby shower with us.

What do we get to take home?

Every session includes 5 printed black-and-white images plus a digital gallery of images and video. Add-ons include a keepsake plush with your baby's heartbeat recording ($39) and, with Beautifully Woven, a digital color 8K image ($25).

Can you tell us the baby's gender?

Gender determination or confirmation is included in the Beautifully Woven session (28+ weeks). It's a great fit for a gender reveal with family.

Diagnostic exams

Do I need a doctor's order for an ultrasound?

For diagnostic exams, yes. Abdominal, vascular, pelvic, OB, thyroid and soft tissue exams all require a valid order from your doctor, nurse practitioner or physician assistant. Elective 3D/4D pregnancy sessions don't need an order.

How do I get my results?

The report is sent to your ordering provider within 24 hours. Your provider will go over the results with you and decide on next steps.

How do I prepare for my exam?

It depends on the exam. Abdominal exams need at least 6 hours of fasting. Kidney, bladder and pelvic exams need a full bladder (about 32 oz of water an hour before). Venous exams go best if you hydrate the day before. Thyroid, soft tissue and arterial exams need no prep. Each exam page lists the details, and we'll remind you when we confirm your appointment.

What do I need to have ready at home?

Just a bed or couch where you can lie down comfortably, and your provider's order if you haven't already sent it to us. We bring the ultrasound system, gel and everything else.

What services do you offer?

Mobile ultrasound in three forms: elective 2D/3D/4D pregnancy sessions at home; diagnostic exams at home with a provider order, covering the abdomen, kidneys and bladder, pelvis, early pregnancy, blood vessels, thyroid and soft tissue; and on-site ultrasound days for physician practices.

For providers

How does on-site ultrasound work for my practice?

We bring portable ultrasound equipment to your office on the days and times you choose, based on your schedule and patient demand. Your patients are scanned during their visit instead of being referred out, and reports come back to you within 24 hours.

Which exams can you perform at our office?

General exams (abdomen, renal/bladder, thyroid, scrotal, soft tissue and small parts), vascular duplex exams (carotid, upper and lower extremity arterial and venous, and AAA) and OB/GYN exams (first trimester, anatomy, growth, and transabdominal and transvaginal pelvic).

How does this help our practice?

Ultrasound you would otherwise refer to a hospital or imaging center can stay in-house, which is more convenient for your patients and keeps that revenue with your practice. There's no equipment to buy and no sonographer to hire. Contact us and we'll walk you through how it would work for your office.
