Pelvic ultrasound looks at the uterus, ovaries and bladder. Early in pregnancy, it confirms the pregnancy, its location, the heartbeat and an estimated due date. Every exam on this page is diagnostic: it requires a provider order, and the report goes to your provider.

Pelvic & OB ultrasound: common questions
What's the difference between transabdominal and transvaginal?
A transabdominal exam is done over the lower belly with gel. A transvaginal exam uses a slim, covered probe placed in the vagina, which gives a closer view of the uterus and ovaries, and is often needed very early in pregnancy. Your provider's order will say which one you need.
Is this the same as your 3D/4D pregnancy sessions?
No. First-trimester and pelvic exams are diagnostic and require a provider order; the report goes to your provider. Our 3D/4D sessions are elective keepsake experiences and don't replace your prenatal care.
Can I have someone with me during the exam?
Yes. Being at home means you can have your partner or a support person with you.
