Prep: Venous exams: drink plenty of water the day before. Arterial and carotid exams: no prep needed. Wear loose clothing that's easy to move away from your neck or legs.

Vascular ultrasound looks at the arteries and veins and the blood flowing through them. Providers order these exams to check for narrowing in the neck arteries, blood clots in the legs, poor circulation, or an enlarged abdominal aorta. They use no radiation or contrast dye.

Exams we offer

  • Carotid duplex. Checks the arteries in the neck that supply the brain.
  • Lower extremity venous (one or both legs). Looks for clots (DVT) and vein problems.
  • Lower extremity arterial (one or both legs). Evaluates circulation and narrowing in the leg arteries.
  • Upper extremity venous and arterial duplex, plus AAA duplex, offered on-site for physician practices. Ask us about in-home availability.

Performed by a vascular specialist

Our founder, a registered sonographer, is credentialed in both general sonography (RDMS) and vascular technology (RVT). Vascular exams depend heavily on the person holding the probe, so that specialty matters.

  2. Contact us to schedule a time that works for you.

Vascular ultrasound: common questions

What is a duplex ultrasound?

A duplex exam combines a regular ultrasound picture of the blood vessel with Doppler, which measures how blood is flowing through it. Together they show narrowing, blockages or clots.

Who performs vascular exams?

Our founder is a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), a credential from ARDMS that specifically covers vascular ultrasound.

Can a venous ultrasound be done at home?

Yes. We bring a portable ultrasound system with Doppler to your home. If your provider needs the exam soon, mention it when you contact us so we can look for the earliest opening.
